An off-duty Smyrna police officer witnessed a drug transaction and alerted on-duty officers, resulting in the seizure of 413 bags of heroin and the arrest of three suspects on Sept. 10 in Smyrna.
At about 2:45 p.m., the off-duty officer saw three women conduct a drug transaction in the parking lot of the Glenwood Plaza shopping center. The officer immediately contacted on-duty officers and informed them of the incident.
A description of the three women as well as the two vehicles they were driving was broadcast to patrol officers.
A Smyrna officer conducted a traffic stop on the first suspect's vehicle in the area of Wheatley’s Pond Road and North Carter Road.
The officer talked to Jennifer Bell, 44, of Marydel in the vehicle. Bell admitted to just purchasing 10 bags of heroin in the shopping center parking lot, police said. She was taken into custody.
While on the scene of this traffic stop, the other suspects' vehicle passed by and was later stopped in the area of Wheatley’s Pond Road and Coldwater Drive. There, Smyrna officers talked to Kyah Hall, 21, of Philadelphia, and her passenger, Jayme Turner, 22, of Smyrna.
After a brief investigation, police searched the vehicle which resulted in the seizure of 390 bags of heroin as well as 0.4 grams of MDMA and suspected drug proceeds.
Turner was later found to be in possession of an additional 13 bags of concealed heroin.
All three suspects were taken to the Smyrna Police Department.
Bell was charged with possession of a controlled substance and driving while her license was suspended, police said. She was issued a $650 unsecured bond by Justice of the Peace Court by video while await another court appearance.
Hall and Turner were both charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance in a tier-4 quantity, second-degree conspiracy, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, police said.
Hall was arraigned by video in Justice of the Peace Court 7 and committed to the custody of the Department of Correction in lieu of $20,850 secured bond while awaiting another court appearance.
Turner was charged with one additional count of possession of a controlled substance. She was committed to the custody of the Department of Correction in lieu of $21,100 secured bond while awaiting another court appearance.
