A Marydel man died in a single-vehicle crash near Hartly this afternoon.
The incident occurred at about 2:51 p.m., on Halltown Road (Route 8) just east of Crystal Road, between Hartly and Pearson's Corner, said Delaware State Police Master Cpl. Gary Fournier.
Michael H. Wallace, 52, of Marydel, was driving west in a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck when he lost control of the truck on a curve and traveled off the road, Fournier said. The pickup struck a mailbox while spinning, then hit a tree on the driver's side door before coming to an abrupt stop.
Wallace, who was not properly restrained, was pronounced dead at the scene, Fournier said.
The State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing the investigation into what caused the wreck.
Halltown Road was closed between Crystal Road and Brittney Lane for about three-and-a-half hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
