Special Olympics Delaware’s annual Night of Heroes will be held at 6 p.m. Oct. 5 at the Executive Banquet & Conference Center, 205 Executive Drive, Newark.
The event, held to honor key contributors to the organization, will begin with a recognition program at 6 p.m. with a reception held at 7:30 p.m.
Former Philadelphia Eagle and motivational speaker Kevin Reilly will serve as emcee. Other speakers will include Special Olympics athlete presenters Michael Bowe, Glenn Jones, Bill Monaghan and Miriam Shjafi.
Dr. Robert South, of Bear, a longtime Special Olympics coach, will be inducted into the organization’s Hall of Fame.
Award winners to be honored include: athlete, Melissa Chong, Newark Dragons; coach, Michelle Goldstein, Wilmington Wizards; volunteer, Karleen O'Brien-McCann, Wilmington Wizards; unified partner, Jonathan Tressler, MOT Tigers; family, the Rob Bailey family, Sussex Riptide; President's Award, Kevin Charles, Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association; business, Delaware Department of Transportation; corporation, Wells Fargo Media, WBOC/Fox 21; and program, Smyrna High School unified track and field team.
