1811 The New Castle Turnpike Company was chartered to build a two mile toll road from New Castle to Hare's Corner.

1978 The DuPont Company sold the News Journal newspaper to the Gannett Co. for $60 million.

2003 The Lion, a 563 foot empty tanker, temporarily lost power in the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal and narrowly avoided colliding with the Reedy Point Bridge at Delaware City.

2016 Delaware crabbers expected a harvest of over four million pounds, up one million from the previous year's projection. The outlook for oysters was not as positive with only 10,661 bushels predicted, the lowest since 2003.
