The Smyrna Shade Tree Commission, Friends of Belmont Hall and the Smyrna Downtown Renaissance Association will sponsor a symposium on “Great Trees for Central Delaware Gardens” from 6 to 8:30 p.m. April 12 at Historic Belmont Hall, 217 Smyrna Leipsic Road, Smyrna.
Sam Seo, urban forester for the Delaware Center for Horticulture titled "Great Trees for Central Delaware Gardens." Seo has been working in public horticulture and urban forestry for the past 10 years. His experiences range from display gardens and collections to city tree management and consultation in New York City; Washington, D.C.; and northern Virginia. In his current position as community forester for the Delaware Center for Horticulture, he works with communities, businesses and municipalities to plant, maintain and analyze healthy tree canopies where they are needed. The evening also will include a demonstration on how to properly plant, prune and care for a tree.
A complimentary light dinner will be served, followed by an optional tour of the trees at Historic Belmont. Participants will be introduced to resources for funding and planting trees and will receive an oriental spruce, a needled evergreen that was awarded the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society's Gold Medal. Door prizes also will be awarded.
