A Dagsboro woman was arrested Tuesday afternoon after driving her car into a fire hydrant in Rehoboth Beach.

Rehoboth Beach Police were called to Christian Street and Scarborough Avenue for a report of a single-vehicle collision around 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Their investigation determined that 39-year-old Gillie Tice failed to negotiate a curve in the road on Scarborough Avenue and struck a fire hydrant. Her car, a Pontiac  G6, came to rest on the shoulder of the road.

As the investigating police officer was completing paperwork in his vehicle, Tice fled the scene on foot into adjacent yards. She was apprehended after a brief search of the area and once captured, showed signs of intoxication. Tice was taken into custody and transported to the Rehoboth Beach Police Department for further sobriety testing.

Tice was arrested and charged with misdemeanor resisting arrest, driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and various other traffic charges. She was arraigned and has since been released on $2,000 unsecured bail.
