Grand jury heard case, charged 16-year-old Derrick Caudle
A New Castle County grand jury has indicted a Middletown teenager, charging him with murdering an 18-year-old man in Middletown last month.
Derrick Caudle, 16, of Middletown was indicted on charges of first degree murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, said Carl Kanefsky, spokesman for the state Department of Justice.
Caudle is accused of fatally shooting Todd Dorn after an altercation in the road near their residences on New Street Feb. 18.
“The indictment [of Caudle] by the New Castle County Grand Jury was a finding of probable cause to charge him. As a result, there is no preliminary hearing (to determine probable cause). Any information regarding the case going forward will be part of the Superior Court docket,” Kanefsky said.
Caudle’s arraignment in Superior Court is March 13 and his preliminary hearing is March 26.
The Middletown Transcript will continue to bring updates about the case.
