31-year-old Spencer Coffin was aggressive and menacing

The Lewes Police Department has made an arrest in the shooting that occurred on Breakwater Street on Friday, December 1, 2017.

On that date, at around 7 p.m., police responded to a residence after receiving a 911 call in which a male advised he had shot his son after an argument. The son was transported to an area hospital, where he was treated for a gunshot wound to the left shoulder and chest area. He was later released.

On Thursday, March 15, 2018, police concluded their investigation and determined that the victim in the incident was actually the father, who was forced to protect himself against his son. According to police, the son, 31-year-old Spencer Coffin, was displaying menacing and aggressive behavior.

The Lewes Police Department formally charged Coffin with felony crimes against a vulnerable adult, possession/consumption of cocaine, menacing and breach of conditions of release. Coffin was already being held at Sussex Correctional Institution on unrelated charges.
