More than 1,600 Special Olympics Delaware athletes and Unified partners — peers without a disability — will compete in soccer events across the state.
Events are set for 10:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dates are April 17 at University of Delaware, Newark, for New Castle County elementary schools; April 19 at DE Turf Sports Complex, 4000 Bay Road, Frederica, for elementary schools in Kent and Sussex counties; April 23 at Kirkwood Soccer Complex, 1220 River Road, New Castle, for New Castle County middle and high schools; and April 26 at Polytech High School, 823 Walnut Shade Road, Woodside, for middle and high schools in Kent and Sussex counties.
Athletes will participate individually or with a Unified partner in skills competitions or on Unified teams in five-on-five round-robin tournaments. More than 50 teams from all levels are playing in the tournaments.
High school students and other companies and organizations will volunteer.
