26-year-old Alan J. Stoltzfus charged
Delaware State Police have arrested a Rehoboth man following a burglary in the Edgewater Estates community.
The investigation began at 6:40 p.m. on Saturday, August 11, when troopers responded to the unit block of Lighthouse Drive for a report of a male suspect attempting to break into a residence. When they arrived, troopers spotted the suspect fleeing the scene on a bicycle and took him into custody after a brief struggle, in which the suspect kicked one of the troopers.
The investigation determined that the suspect, 26-year-old Alan J. Stolfus, had made forcible entry into an enclosed rear patio and then broken a glass door window, allowing access into the main portion of the residence. However, Stoltzfus fled the scene before entering the residence.
Stoltzfus was charged with second-degree burglary, possession of burglar tools, offensive touching of a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest and criminal mischief under $1,000. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in lieu of $12,500 secured bail.
