The U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance, released the approved funding allocations for the annual formula based Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program for fiscal 2018 Local Solicitation on July 20.
The Dover Police Department was listed as a disparate entity along with the Smyrna Police Department and Kent County. The amount awarded this year is $61,504.00.
The Dover Police Department will submit a joint application for the funds with the Smyrna Police Department and Kent County. However, because the Kent County structure does not contain a law enforcement agency, the amount will be available for use by the Dover and Smyrna police departments.
Dover Police Department will allot $50,327 for COBAN in-car cameras; Smyrna Police Department will allot $11,177 for XPR3500 radios, battery, chargers and medical trauma kits for patrol cars.
The deadline for the joint application is Aug. 22. The application will be submitted through the Bureau of Justice Assistance, Office of Justice Program’s Grants Management System. Public comments and questions are welcome.
