Smyrna police arrested Steven Hay, 29, Friday morning at his home on East North Street

Smyrna police charged a man with maintaining a property for drug purposes and other offenses Friday, Feb. 1 after an investigation of suspected illegal activities at his home.

At about 6 a.m., Smyrna Police SWAT team members entered the home in the 200 block of East North Street to serve a search and seizure warrant.

Once inside, team members found and arrested Steven Hay, 29, of Smyrna. Investigators seized a small quantity of heroin and a small quantity of crack cocaine from the home, police said.

Hay was taken to the Smyrna police station where he was charged with maintaining a drug property, possession of heroin (subsequent offense), and possession of crack cocaine, police said.

Hay was also wanted by Smyrna police on a charge of failure to re-register as a sex offender.

Hay was arraigned by video in Justice of the Peace Court 2 and was committed to the Department of Correction on $2,200 secured bond for his drug charges while awaiting another court appearance. He was issued a $1,000 unsecured bond for the charge of failure to re-register as a sex offender. He was taken to the Sussex Correctional Institution.
