Couple caught stealing from construction sites
The Delaware State Police arrested a couple from Magnolia in connection with recent home construction burglaries April 11.
A rash of thefts and burglaries from homes under construction in the neighborhood of Chestnut Ridge, Magnolia, began the first week of March, police said. The investigation revealed that someone driving a dark colored truck with loud exhausts would steal building materials overnight, typically on the weekend.
Troopers found a truck matching that description at a nearby home under construction April 11. The driver, identified as Chad Chapek, 30, left the truck wearing a headlamp light and was searching the property, police said. When he came back, he was arrested without incident. His girlfriend Rebecca Lonski, 29, was in the truck.
Further evidence linked Chapek and Lonski to the burglaries, police said. Both subjects were sent to Troop 3 where they were charged, arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court and released on their own recognizance.
They were each charged with three counts of burglary third degree, five counts of theft less than $1,500, two counts of criminal mischief, four counts of criminal trespass third degree, attempt to theft greater than $1,500 and criminal mischief less than $5,000.
