Democrat for Senator from the 17th District
Each candidate was asked to respond to three questions.
1. What are the top issues you will address in your campaign and what are your plans for moving those issues forward?
The citizens of the 17th District expect and deserve a government that is responsive and transparent and that works for the people. In my 6 years as a legislator, I have been a supporter of every initiative that makes government more open and accountable. I am known for my tireless efforts to personally return phone calls and emails and to deliver the best constituent service possible.
We are very fortunate to live in Delaware. There is a reason why people from Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey are moving here. We must preserve all that is good about Delaware, like our beaches, open space, and low taxes, while finding solutions to solve our deficiencies, including a lack of affordable housing, opioid addiction, recidivism and overcrowding in our prisons, and a lack of good-paying jobs.
2. What makes you uniquely qualified for the political office you seek?
I was born and raised in Kent County. I grew up working in a family-owned, small business. At every stage of my life, I have accepted challenges, persevered, and delivered results. At the age of 14, I earned the rank of Eagle Scout. I attended the University of Delaware, where I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree. Seven years ago, I took a huge risk and started my own business, where I help families save for college and plan for retirement. I understand the difficulties facing small business owners and entrepreneurs, who are trying to build their businesses and create jobs. I raised two children who attended local schools so I understand the challenges of raising children and trying to make ends meet. I have served the past 6 years in the Delaware House of Representatives, where I have been a champion for working families, insurance consumers, seniors, veterans, first responders, and persons with disabilities. I have been an advocate for the environment, early childhood learning, women’s rights, and making college more attainable. I have consistently delivered results to the community and followed through with my promises.
