The Smyrna High School first doubles team of Alec Shalk and Alex Savich won the Henlopen Conference title Monday, while the Eagles finished second in the team standings at the tournament.

The Smyrna High School first doubles team of Alec Shalk and Alex Savich won the Henlopen Conference title Monday, while the Eagles finished second in the team standings at the tournament in Bethany Beach.

The tournament started on Thursday and was scheduled to conclude Saturday, but rain pushed the finals to Monday.

Shalk and Savich faced Dover's first doubles team in the finals and dominated the first set, winning 6-0. Then the Senators rebounded to win the second set 7-5. In the third set, Shalk and Savich retook control and won 6-2 to capture the conference title.

Placing second in the tournament for the Eagles were Colin Shalk at second singles, Justin Nash at third singles, and the second doubles team of Max Berman and David Fu.

Shalk advanced to the finals before falling to his CR opponent 0-6, 3-6.

Nash faced a CR opponent in the finals but lost 1-6, 1-6.

Berman and Fu fell in the finals 3-6, 2-6 to their CR opponents.

Finishing third for the Eagles was Alden Tonkay at first singles who won the third-place match 6-0, 6-3 over his Polytech opponent.

TEAM STANDINGS

Caesar Rodney won the team title with 27 points.

The Eagles placed second with 21 points, and Dover was third with 17 points in the 10-team tournament.
