The Eagles, seeded eighth, will play at top-seeded Cape Henlopen Thursday, Nov. 8.

The Smyrna High School field hockey team has qualified for the Division I state tournament for the first time in at least 10 years.

The DIAA State Field Hockey Committee met today and set the brackets for the Division I tournament for schools with larger enrollments and the Division II tourney for schools with smaller enrollments.

With a 9-5-1 record the Eagles are seeded eighth in the eight-team Division I tournament and will play at top-seeded Cape Henlopen Thursday, Nov. 8 at 4 p.m.

Here are the rest of the quarterfinal match-ups Nov. 8:

#2 Padua (14-1) vs. #7 Middletown (10-4-1) at Caravel, 6:30 p.m.

#3 Charter School of Wilmington (11-4) hosts #6 Concord (11-4), 2:30 p.m.

#4 Polytech (12-3) hosts #5 Sussex Tech (11-3-1), 2:30 p.m.

If Smyrna defeats Cape in the first round, the Eagles will play the winner of #2 Polytech/#5 Sussex Tech in the semifinals Tuesday, Nov. 13 at Rullo Stadium at the University of Delaware.

The finals are scheduled for Friday, Nov. 16, also at Rullo Stadium.

During the regular season, Smyrna defeated Polytech 2-1 but lost to Cape Henlopen 2-0 and lost to Sussex Tech 1-0. The only other Division I tournament team the Eagles played in the regular season was Middletown, and the Eagles won that game 2-1.
