Traffic stop leads to heroin, fentanyl bust

A Maryland man was arrested near Newark May 5 on felony drug charges after a traffic stop, Delaware State police said. Tyler Unkle, 26, of Dameron, Maryland, was found in possession of heroin, fentanyl and prescription pills that were not prescribed to him.

At about 5:43 p.m., state troopers pulled over Unkle’s gray VW Jetta on Interstate 95 northbound near Newark for aggressively driving at a high speed.

Based on their interaction with Unkle, police searched his person and car. Troopers found 18.7 grams of heroin/fentanyl packaged in individual plastic bags and 12 prescription pills, which were not prescribed to Unkle.

He was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, speeding, following too close and failure to signal.

Unkle was arraigned and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $40,103 secured bail.
